Little Amigurumi Cat Free Crochet Pattern

I started with Marissa’s suggestion of a cat. Cats are one of my favourite animals, which made it even more fun for me! I hope you’ll enjoy my pattern for this little amigurumi cat! You can read the pattern right here on my blog or print the printable crochet pattern, on the bottom of this post.

If you’re used to UK terms, simply replace sc (single crochet) with dc (double crochet), hdc (half double crochet) with htr (half treble crochet), and dc (double crochet) with tr (treble crochet). You’ll need the two latter only for the ears.

All you need to know to crochet this little amigurumi cat is how to single crochet (double crochet in British terms), make a magic ring, and invisible decreases with single crochet (British double crochet).

DK / light worsted weight cotton yarn, for example Paintbox Cotton DK in Stormy Grey (405) or Melon Sorbet (417)

2.5mm / C-2 or B-1 crochet hook

5mm / 0.2″ safety eyes

Fiberfill

Darning needle / tapestry needle

Large eyed sewing needle

Light pink embroidery floss

Stitch marker

Scissors

Small pliers (optional)

Abbreviations

St = stitch

Ch = chain

Sc = single crochet (double crochet in British terms)

Inc = sc increase: single crochet 2 in same st

Dec = invisible sc decrease: Insert hook in front loops of next 2 sts, yarn over, pull through both front loops, yarn over, pull through 2 remaining loops

Hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet in British terms)

Dc = double crochet (treble crochet in British terms)

Sk = skip

FLO = front loops

BLO = back loops

(…) = stitches that are repeated in the rd

*… = number of repetitions

Instructions

Rd 1: Sc 6 in magic ring (6)

Rd 2: Inc 6 (12)

Rd 3: [sc 1, inc 1]*6 (18)

Rd 4: [sc 2, inc 1]*6 (24)

Rd 5: Sc 24 (24)

In the following 2 rounds we crochet gaps for the safety eyes. If you want to place the eyes differently, use different eyes, or want to embroider them, simply sc in all 24 st in the next 2 rounds.

Rd 6: Sc 8, ch 1, sk 1, sc 5, ch 1, sk 1, sc 9 (24)

Rd 7: Sc 8, sc 1 in gap, sc 5, sc 1 in gap, sc 9 (24)

Rd 8: Sc 24 (24)

Rd 9: Dec 12 times (12)

Attach or embroider the eyes. Embroider the nose in shape of a tiny triangle on rd 7 and the mouth as an upside down V on rd 8, centred.

Rd 10: [sc 1, inc 1]*6 (18)

Rd 11: Sc 18 (18)

Rd 12: Sc 16, inc 2 (20)

Rd 13: Inc 2, sc 18 (22)

Rd 14: Sc 2, dec, inc 3, sc 8, inc 3, dec, sc 2 (26)

Rd 15: Inc 1, sc 8, dec, sc 4, dec, sc 8, inc 1 (26)

Rd 16: Sc 10, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 10 (24)

Rd 17: Sc 11, inc 1, sc 1, inc 1, sc 10 (26)

Rd 18: Sc 1, ch 16, sc in next 15 ch (starting from 2nd), sc 25 (26)

Rd 19: In BLO only: Dec, [sc 2, dec]*6 (19) (treat the tail as one stitch, pull out a loop from under it and treat it as a BLO)

Stuff body with fiberfill. Don’t overstuff, so your cat will be able to sit.

Rd 20: Sk st under tail, [sc 1, dec]*6 (12)

Rd 21: Dec 6 times (6)

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Insert tail end in FLO of all 6 st, then stitch through the middle of the last rd to the spot above the cat’s hind leg between rd 13 and 14, creating a shallow cavity in the bottom, that will help the cat sit.

Now use the yarn end to shape the legs by stitching through the body above the hind legs, in between hind and forelegs, as well as between the forelegs, pulling the yarn tight enough to create some tension. If you need help with this part, jump to minute 40 of my video tutorial:

Stitch on the 4 paws with 4 to 5 little stitches each (appox. 1 rd high).

Crochet the ears (make 2)

Ch 4, Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc, dc, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch

Fasten off leaving a long enough end to sew on the ear. Slightly bend the ears and sew them on rd 2 to 4 on each side of the head.
