About the pattern
Terminology
This pattern is written in American terminology.
Size
The mouse will be approx. 8cm/3.2” tall from nose to the base of the tail, if using the indicated hook and yarn. If you want it to be larger or smaller, use a different yarn weight and adjust the hook size accordingly.
Construction
The legs and tail are crocheted on the body. The ears and head are sewn on.
Techniques
This pattern will require techniques such as the magic ring, invisible sc decreases, and changing colors.
Tips and tricks
- You crochet in seamless spirals.
- Crochet as tightly as you comfortably can. This will ensure your amigurumi will have the right scale and no filling will show through any gaps. If you tend to crochet quite loosely, try using a smaller-sized hook.
- Small amigurumi, such as this are not suitable toys for a small child under 3. If this amigurumi will be played with please don’t use safety eyes. You can instead embroider the eyes with yarn or embroidery thread. Although they are called “safety eyes” they can be removed and swallowed by young children.
- Have fun! In my opinion, crocheting shouldn’t be just about the result, but mainly about enjoying the process.
Materials and Tools
- Cotton yarn in 4-Ply / Fingering or DK / light worsted weight in light brown or gray (main color) and cream, beige or light pink (secondary color). If you want to crochet the acorn too, you’ll also need ochre and dark brown [I used Scheepjes Catona in Camel and Hazelnut for the mouse and Ginger Gold and Chocolate for the acorn]
- 1.75mm/A-0 hook
- 2.5mm crochet hook / Size B-1 or C-2, depending on how tightly you crochet
- 5mm safety eyes
- Fiberfill
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle
- Sewing pins
- Scissors

Instructions
Use a 2.5mm/C-2 crochet hook, unless otherwise indicated.
Crochet the forelegs (make 2)
The legs don’t need to be filled with fiberfill.
Start with a 1.75mm/A-0 hook and beige (secondary color) yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc into magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 to 4 (3 rnds): 6 sc (6)
Change color to light brown (main color) and hook to 2.5mm/C-2 in last stitch.
Rnd 5: [sc, inc]*3 (9)
Rnd 6: 9 sc (9)
Rnd 7: [2 sc, inc]*3 (12)
Sl st in next st and fasten off.
Crochet the hind legs (make 2)
The legs don’t need to be filled with fiberfill.
Start with a 1.75mm/A-0 hook and beige (secondary color) yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc into magic ring (6)
Rnd 2 to 5 (4 rnds): 6 sc (6)
Change color to light brown (main color) and hook to 2.5mm/C-2 in last stitch.
Rnd 6: 4 sc, 2 inc (8)
Rnd 7: 4 sc, 2 dec (6)
Rnd 8: [sc, inc]*3 (9)
Rnd 9: 2 sc, 5 inc, 2 sc (14)
Rnd 10: 14 sc (14)
Sl st in next st and fasten off.
Crochet the tail in beige (secondary color)
23 ch
R 1: 22 sc (starting in 2nd ch) (22)
Fasten off.
Mark the inner stitches of the legs
Before starting to crochet the belly, mark the innermost 6 stitches of the hind legs and the innermost 4 stitches of the forelegs with stitch markers.
The tips of the legs (where the feet would be) should point forward. This is especially distinguishable on the hind legs. It matters less when it comes to the forelegs.
With this in mind, mark the two stitches next to the inner 6 stitches of the hind legs and the two stitches next to the inner 4 stitches of the forelegs.
I used pink stitch markers for the left legs and blue stitch markers for the right legs.
You can watch this section of the video tutorial here.
Crochet the belly in beige (secondary color)
7 ch
Rnd 1: Inc in second ch, 4 sc, 4 sc in last ch, 4 sc (in other side of chains), inc in last ch (16)
Rnd 2: 2 inc, 4 sc, 4 inc, 4 sc, 2 inc (24) [img 3]
Rnd 3: Sc, 6 sc together with left hind leg, 4 sc together with left foreleg, 2 sc, 4 sc together with right foreleg, 6 sc together with right hind leg, sc (24) Change to light brown (main color) in the last stitch.
Crochet the legs on
In round 3, you will crochet the legs on the body.
Rnd 3: Sc in the first stitch of the round (on the belly),
6 sc together with left hind leg: Insert the hook in the first of the 6 marked stitches of the left hind leg (pink) and in the next stitch of the belly, make a sc, sc in the remaining 5 marked stitches of the leg together with the next 5 stitches on the belly,
4 sc together with left foreleg: sc the 4 marked stitches of the left foreleg (pink) together with the next 4 stitches of the belly the same way,
2 sc: sc in the next 2 stitches of the belly,
4 sc together with right foreleg (blue),
6 sc together with right hind leg (blue),
sc: sc in last stitch of belly (24)
Change to light brown (main color) in the previous stitch.
Now the legs are crocheted on from the inside.
In round 4, you will crochet around the legs, in the still unworked/remaining stitches of the legs.
Rnd 4: Inc, 7 sc in hind leg, inc in hind leg, inc in foreleg, 7 sc in foreleg, 2 sc,
7 sc in foreleg, inc in foreleg, inc in hind leg, 7 sc in hind leg, inc (42)
Rnd 5: 2 inc, 38 sc, 2 inc (46)
Rnd 6: 46 (46)
Stitch the gaps between the fore- and hind legs together, using the light brown yarn ends. Use the remaining yarn ends as filling for the upper legs.
In round 7, you will crochet the tail on and crochet the opening for the neck. For this, you will skip the 8 stitches in the center front.
Rnd 7: Sc the base of the tail together with the first stitch, tie the yarn ends of the tail together, 18 sc, 4 ch, sk 8, 19 sc (42)
Rnd 8: Sc, [dec, 4 sc]*3, 4 sc in ch stitches, [4 sc, dec]*3, sc (36)

Fill the body with fiberfill.
Rnd 12: [dec, sc]*6 (12)
Rnd 13: 6 dec (6)
Close the round and fasten off.
Crochet the neck
Join the light brown (main color) yarn at the side of the neck opening, in the stitch right next to the first skipped stitch (that is already crocheted in).
Rnd 1: 8 sc in skipped stitches, sc in the stitch left next to the last skipped stitch (that is already crocheted in), 4 sc in the chain stitches, sc in the stitch where you first joined the yarn (14)
Sl st in next st and fasten off, leaving a long yarn end for sewing.
Crochet the head
Make a magic ring in beige (secondary color)

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Sl st in next st and fasten off.
Pinch the ears together at the end/beginning of the round.
Assembly
Pin the ears on rounds 11 and 12 of the head with about 6 stitches space in between.
Ensure the ears are pinched together at the base and sew them on, using the yarn ends. Then weave in the ends and cut them short.
Fill the neck firmly with fiberfill. Pin the head on the neck opening at whichever angle you like and sew the head on all around, using the long yarn end. Then weave it in and cut it short.
Acorn
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring in dark brown (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3: [3 sc, inc]*3 (15)
