About the pattern

Terminology

This pattern is written in American terminology.

Size

The toadstool will measure about. 3 cm/1.2” if using the indicated hook and yarn. If you want it to be larger or smaller, use a different yarn weight and adjust the hook size accordingly.

Construction

The cap and stalk are crocheted in one piece. The ring is crocheted on – no sewing required.

Techniques

For this pattern, you will need techniques such as the magic ring, invisible sc decreases, crocheting in the back loops, invisible finishes and closing rounds.

Tips and tricks

  1. You crochet in seamless spirals.
  2. Crochet as tightly as you comfortably can. This will ensure your amigurumi will have the right scale and no filling will show through any gaps. If you tend to crochet quite loosely, try using a smaller-sized hook.
  3. Have fun! In my opinion, crocheting shouldn’t be just about the result, but mainly about enjoying the process.

Materials and Tools

  • DK / light worsted OR 4-Ply / Fingering yarn in red and white
  • 2.5mm crochet hook / Size B-1 or C-2 depending on how tightly you crochet
  • A tiny amount of fiberfill or yarn scraps as filler
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Mushroom Crochet Pattern Instructions

Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring in red (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3: [sc, inc]*6 (18)
Rnd 4: Sc, inc, [2 sc, inc]*5, sc (24)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc]*6 (30)

Secure your stitch with a stitch marker.

Cut a 50cm / 20” long piece of white yarn and embroider about 12 to 16 scales on the toadstool cap, making 1 or 2 knots each. You can see how to do this in this section of the video tutorial.

Sl st 1 changing to white. This is now the last stitch of the round.

Rnd 6: In BLO: [3 sc, dec]*6 (24)
Rnd 7: Sc, dec, [2 sc, dec]*5, sc (18)
Rnd 8: [sc, dec]*6 (12)
Rnd 9: 12 sc (12)
Rnd 10: In BLO: 6 dec (6)
Rnd 11: Sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, sc (8)
Rnd 12: [3 sc, inc]*2 (10)
Rnd 13: 2 sc, inc, 4 sc, inc, 2 sc (12)

Push the cap down so that you don’t accidentally fill it. Fill the stalk with leftover yarn scraps or a little fiberfill.

Rnd 14: In BLO: 6 dec (6)

Fasten off and close the round. Weave in the yarn end and cut it short.

Join the white yarn at the first front loop of rnd 10.

R 1: R 1: Ch 1, sc in same front loop [img 2], sc in remaining 11 front loops (12)

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn end and thread it on a yarn needle. Make an invisible finish. Weave in the yarn ends and cut them short.

Your mini toadstool is complete!
